The Main Applications of Polyether Polyol

The manufacture of polyurethanes relies heavily on polyether polyols. In comparison to polyester-based polyurethanes, polyether-based polyurethanes have improved hydrolytic stability and superior resistance to weak acids and bases. Depending on how well the polyether products function, polyether polyurethane can be classified as soft foam polyether, stiff foam polyether, or elastomer with polyether. However, compared to polyurethanes based on polyester, polyether-based polyurethanes are less resistant to lubricants and fuels and more vulnerable to UV radiation.Glycol and organic oxide react to form polyether polyols. Ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, butylene oxide, and epichlorohydrin are the most commonly used organic oxides. Ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, water, glycerine, sorbitol, sucrose, and THME are the principal glycols used.

The synthetic oil type with the highest sales volume at the moment is polyether polyol (abbreviated as polyether). It is a ring-opening homopolymer or copolymer produced from ethylene oxide, epoxypropane, epoxybutane, and other raw ingredients with the aid of a catalyst. The following are the main applications:

1. Detergent or defoaming agent

In addition to being used as a defoaming agent in the papermaking and fermentation industries as well as a defoaming agent to prevent air from entering the blood during the circulation of the blood on an artificial heart-lung machine, polyether polyol can be used to create synthetic detergents with low foaming and high detergency.

2.Wetting agent

Polyether is a powerful wetting agent that may be employed in acid bath electroplating, photographic development, and fabric dyeing. The higher water permeability of F68 allows sugar mills to produce more sugar.

3. Dispersing agent

Dispersants made of polyether are utilized in emulsion coatings. In the polymerization of a vinyl acetate emulsion, it can act as an emulsifier. Additionally, it is a lubricant in vulcanization, a coolant and lubricant in metal cutting and grinding, and an emulsifier for pesticides in agriculture.

4. Excipient and emulgator

Because of its low toxicity, polyether is frequently used as an emulsifier and excipient in shampoos, nasal and oral sprays, eye and ear drops, and other pharmaceutical products.

5. Antistatic agent

Synthetic fiber can benefit from the long-lasting electrostatic protection that polyether, a good antistatic compound, can offer.

6.Papermaking additives

When employed as a papermaking additive, polyether significantly raises the caliber of coated paper. Additionally, it functions as a bleaching agent.

7. Preparation and application

Products from the polyether polyol series are primarily used to create hard polyurethane foaming polymers, which are extensively utilized in thermal baffles, pipe insulation, refrigerators, freezers, and refrigerated vehicles, among other things. In addition to being a crucial raw material for the creation of premixed polyether polyols, polyether polyol has a low heat conductivity coefficient and a stable size in the goods it produces. In the polyurethane business, polyether polyol is primarily produced for use in foaming plastics for polyurethane. Polyoxypropylene polyol and polytetrahydrofuran ether polyol are the two most prevalent forms.
