Difference between PTMEG1000 and PTMEG2000

PTMEG1000 and PTMEG2000 are two different molecular weight Polytetramethylene Ether Glycol (PTMEG), which are identical in chemical structure, but due to different molecular weights, they have some differences in physical properties and applications.

Molecular weight:

PTMEG1000 has a molecular weight of about 1000, while PTMEG2000 has a molecular weight of about 2000, so PTMEG2000 has a higher molecular weight and higher viscosity.

Physical properties:

PTMEG1000 is usually used to prepare low hardness, high elasticity polyurethane elastomer, polyurethane foam, thermoplastic polyurethane and other products. Because of its relatively small molecular weight, PTMEG1000 provides better processability and flowability, as well as better low-temperature elasticity and wear resistance. Therefore, PTMEG1000 is usually used in the manufacture of products that require higher elasticity and flexibility.

PTMEG2000, on the other hand, is mainly used for the preparation of high hardness and high strength polyurethane elastomers, thermoplastic polyurethanes, polyester-based elastic fibers and other products. Because PTMEG2000 has a higher molecular weight and its molecular chains are tighter, it can provide higher abrasion resistance and strength, as well as better chemical resistance. Therefore, PTMEG2000 is often used in the manufacture of products that require higher strength and stiffness.

In addition, PTMEG1000 and PTMEG2000 are also used in the preparation of other products, such as polyether polyols, polyurethane elastomer coatings, etc. In conclusion, PTMEG1000 and PTMEG2000 differ significantly in their application areas, and manufacturers can choose the right polytetrahydrofuran ether material according to different product requirements.
